Lutron Homeworks Keypad Project got a Major Facelift!
THE PROJECT
A client came to us wanting to update the existing Lutron Homeworks Illumination keypads that had been installed in the home over 12 years ago by another company. The keypads felt very dated and the button labels were discolored, falling off, written by hand, or missing altogether. The client's goal was to upgrade the keypads to match the aesthetic of the home.
EXISTING KEYPADS
THE CHALLENGE
This project posed several challenges - updating an entire keypad system that controls lighting, shades, and more is a big undertaking, especially when Cinegration was not the original installer.
During initial testing, Cinegration found that the Lutron software driver for Control4 did not meet the desired functionality or system requirements. Cindev, Cinegration's software development company, was able to update the software code to support keypad linking and real time feedback of the keypad LEDs. This software update greatly reduced the installation and programming time and saved the client a significant amount of labor cost.
THE SOLUTION
Cinegration designed a new keypad layout that was compatible with the legacy wiring. Using the existing Lutron Illumination processor, light dimmers, and wiring for power, we replaced 39 Lutron keypads with Control4 keypads.The end result was a cleaner, more cohesive keypad layout that made the smart home elements really shine.
UPDATED KEYPADS
Everyone has lighting in their home, and cluttered, complicated, outdated switches can be an eyesore in an otherwise beautifully curated house. The good news is that updating old keypads or switches is a relatively fast and simple process!
